Since our last report in 2025 on the latest RIAA top 10 albums in terms of U.S. sales, Garth Brooks is the biggest mover, with his Double Live album zooming from ninth to third on the list. It also holds the distinction of being the most recently released album to land on the list.
Eagles, however, remain fully secure at the top of the list with their best seller, Eagles/Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975, at 40 million copies sold, extending their lead over Michael Jackson's Thriller at #2 at 34 million.
Also, several ties have brought some new mega sellers onto the list, including Green Day's Dookie, Metallica's self-titled album, and Shania Twain's Come On Over, all tied at 20 million.

Other moves in the top 10 tally include Fleetwood Mac's Rumours album moving into the top 10 while Hootie & The Blowfish's Cracked Rear View holds onto the spot just ahead of them with 22 million copies racked up.

So as of writing of this article in August 2026, the RIAA's top 10 best-selling albums of all time list now looks like this:

3. Eagles, Hotel California, 28 million
4. AC/DC, Back In Black, 27 million
5. Garth Brooks, Double Live, 25 million
6. (tie) The Beatles, The Beatles (aka White Album), 24 million, (tie) Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin IV, 24 million
7. (tie) Billy Joel, Greatest Hits Volume I & Volume II, 23 million, (tie) Pink Floyd, The Wall, 23 million
8. Hootie & The Blowfish, Cracked Rear View, 22 million
9. Fleetwood Mac, Rumours, 21 million
10. (tie) Green Day, Dookie, 20 million, (tie) Metallica, Metallica, 20 million, (tie) Shania Twain, Come On Over, 20 million
Of course it's not a race, but it's fun for stats fans to keep an eye on how these classic albums keep growing in sales and remain atop the sales pile, at least in the U.S.
