April 12 Is Record Store Day For 2025

Posted by James Duncan on

While every day is kind of a record store day, in our opinion, this year's "official" Record Store Day takes place on April 12, 2025. The day always presents a great opportunity to get some limited edition vinyl, box sets, and other special releases.

You can also just relive the your past memories of flipping through some vinyl, cassettes, and maybe even CDs (which are just now almost getting vintage as well) in the shelves and racks of your local record store.

You can check out the pretty exhaustive list of special released planned in participating U.S. record stores for this year's day here: https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialReleases (Note: We are not affiliated with this website and, even though we sell lots of vintage vinyl, cassettes, and CDs you can see here in our own Vinyl/Tapes/CDs section, we do not stock these new special releases).

What is Record Store Day?

Record Store Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday in April, although this year that falls on a bank holiday in many countries so it was moved to the second weekend this time around. Created in 2007, it was designed to celebrate independent record stores and bring record collectors and music fans together. Kicking off the first time on April 19, 2008, it has since become a global happening.

Records in bins for some is nirvana; others prefer to flip through online listings

Record Store Day was founded by independent record store owners who believed that independent record stores played a key part in promoting and preserving music culture, and that they needed to be celebrated.

Over 700 independent record stores participated in the first Record Store Day in the U.S. alone, presenting music fans with exclusive vinyl releases, in-store performances, and other special activities. As they years went on, Record Store Day grew into a global event with several thousand independent record stores across 30+ countries participating.

Vinyl always had the best labels, wouldn't you agree?

Today, with the continuing resurgence of vinyl in particular, music buyers still line up outside record stores early in the morning in hopes of capturing copies of limited-edition releases from their favorite artists. A huge trend in recent years are colored vinyl reissues, 180 gram releases, CD reissues (yup, CDs, the best quality audio format ever offered to consumers, after all...), and very special box sets.

So this Record Store Day, take a visit to a record store and discover something of your own... whether it's here at our online independent record store or a "brick and mortar" store in your local community.
