Just a couple of highlights from this week in music history!
JUL 9: Sadly, it was reported that Bonnie Tyler passed away today at age 75. Bonnie Tyler remains one of rock and pop’s most unmistakable voices, a Welsh powerhouse whose raspy, dramatic delivery turned emotional songs into arena-sized anthems. Born Gaynor Hopkins in Skewen, Wales, she first found international success in the late 1970s with “It’s a Heartache,” a huge hit that showcased the vocal sound that would become her signature.
Her defining era arrived in the 1980s, particularly through her collaboration with songwriter and producer Jim Steinman. “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” from her 1983 album Faster Than the Speed of Night, became a worldwide phenomenon and a permanent fixture of pop culture. Its sweeping arrangement, theatrical intensity, and Bonnie’s full-throated performance made it one of the era’s most memorable singles.
She followed it with another Steinman epic, “Holding Out for a Hero,” which was on the soundtrack of the film Footloose and remains a favorite in movies, television, and sporting events.
Across decades, Bonnie Tyler continued recording, touring, and connecting with audiences around the world. Her career was a testament to resilience, individuality, and the enduring power of a truly distinctive voice. RIP

JUL 12: Today we celebrate the birth of the unforgettable Christine McVie, whose timeless songwriting, soulful voice, and elegant keyboard playing helped define the sound of Fleetwood Mac. Born on this day in 1943, Christine brought warmth, grace, and emotional depth to every performance.
Before joining Fleetwood Mac, she found success with the British blues band Chicken Shack, earning recognition for her powerful vocals. After becoming a member of Fleetwood Mac in 1970, she wrote and sang many of the band's most beloved classics, including "Don't Stop," "You Make Loving Fun," "Everywhere," "Little Lies," and "Songbird."
Her gift for crafting heartfelt melodies and relatable lyrics made her one of rock's most respected songwriters. Christine's calm presence balanced the band's dynamic personalities, while her songs became the soundtrack to countless lives across generations.
Though she is deeply missed, her remarkable legacy continues to inspire musicians and fans around the world. Happy Birthday, Christine McVie! Your music will forever live on.
