This past weekend marked 43 years since Elvis Presley left us. The King passed away on August 16, 1977 at the too-young age of 42, leaving an entire globe of fans mourning his passing. But Elvis, in reality, never really left. His legacy lives on with his many contributions to rock, pop music, and film. He still holds the record for the most Gold Album Awards awarded of any artist in RIAA history. He is a three-time Grammy award and was a Lifetime Achievement award winner by age 36. He has the most albums charted on the Billboard 200 in the tally’s history and in 2018 was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and is in numerous music halls of fame, among many other accolades.
And his fans... well, they are everywhere in practically every nation on earth.
It has been estimated that he has sold between 600 million and a billion of records on a global basis, with 146.5 million documented in the USA alone by the RIAA.
An impressive portfolio of 33 major movie appearances helped to fuel his popularity as well of course and while many were simply vehicles for his music, there were some with more significant plot lines as well.
Presley will live on in the hearts of his fans and his influence on music will continue as well. Long live The King!
