The iconic status of The Doors is punctuated by the fact that they were the first group to see their first eight consecutive albums be certified Gold by the RIAA. Their star burned brightly, both live and in the studio, until the group disbanded after singer/poet Jim Morrison's untimely death at the age of 27 in 1971.
RIAA record awards for the group have always been highly desired by collectors, especially when those awards are highly coveted "white matte" awards from the 60s and early 70s. Even more so, when they are presented to the group or members of the group -- such as, in this case, many to legendary Doors front man/poet laureate Jim Morrison. This is what makes the awards in this collection special.
This stellar collection was painstakingly acquired piece-by-piece by a collector in the early 1990s with a focus on artist-presented examples. And we at MusicGoldmine are thrilled to be able to present these fantastic and important pieces of Doors history for sale.
The Doors' relatively short-lived career has caused less of the group's awards to be available in the marketplace. That goes double for RIAA white matte awards, which were made in very limited numbers only from 1964-74 so these are among the rarest out there.
The collection includes both RIAA album and 45 single awards, the latter including plaques for most of the group's most successful hit singles. The awards are uniformly in Very Good condition, with some wear here and there as is typical of awards that are 50+ years old. Each comes with a Letter of Provenance from the collector who owned them for the past 30 years. Here are the awards now available from this incredible collection (click on any title or photo to view that award's item page here at MusicGoldmine.com for full details) [11-15-21 UPDATE: All of these Doors awards are sold]:
