Holiday Songs Come Around Every Year

Posted by Lilly Duncan on

It’s that time of year again when you hear holiday music on every channel and in every store. These are songs that we typically only hear during the holiday season and maybe that’s a good thing. Everyone has their favorite, of course, and each year begins the battle to be the most downloaded and listened to of them all.

This year it appears that Mariah Carey is once again the Queen of the Holiday Song with her perennial holiday hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” at the top the Billboard Holiday charts. Released in 1994, it has become the most played and best-selling holiday song in modern history. The song has sold 16 million copies and ranks as the 12th best-selling single of all-time. Historically, the song just hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, which is the first time it has ever gone to the top spot after its release 25 years ago!

Another modern holiday song to once again enter the Billboard Holiday chart is “Last Christmas” by Wham! Released in 1984, it has become a holiday season staple and has been covered by many artists over the years. This year it is also accompanied by a movie of the same name.

Even though the modern holiday hits are at the top of the charts, the standards “White Christmas”, “A Holly Jolly Christmas”, and “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” are just as popular as ever. What would this time of year be without these classic tunes surrounding us as we stand in line after line while doing our shopping.

Happy Holidays!
