Elton John Biopic "Rocketman" To Premiere Late May

Posted by James Duncan on

Elton John is the latest rock musician to have their life brought to the big screen. Rocketman tells the story of John’s life beginning with his time as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music through his musical partnership with Bernie Taupin.

The film will also explore John’s battles with depression, substance abuse, and acceptance of his sexual orientation. Starring as Elton John will be Taron Egerton,
who also lent his own vocals to the role. The British actor has previously sung John’s “I’m Still Standing” for the animated film Sing, and also appeared in Kingsman: The Secret Service and its later sequel.

The movie has been in the works since 2012 and will open in the U.S. on May 31,
2019. Time will tell if it receives the same acclaim as recent smash Bohemian Rhapsody. Sir Elton John's catalog and flamboyant stage persona is certainly on par with the royal rockers. The fact that the artist himself is out on a farewell tour will no doubt also help drive success of the biopic.
