MAY 9: Happy birthday Billy Joel is one of America’s most beloved singer-songwriters. Known as the “Piano Man,” Joel built a legendary career with timeless storytelling, unforgettable melodies, and a voice that helped define pop and rock music across multiple decades. Born in New York on May 9, 1949, he exploded onto the charts in the 1970s with classics like “Piano Man,” “Just the Way You Are,” and “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant”.
Throughout the 1980s, Joel became a global superstar with massive hits including “Uptown Girl,” “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” and “Tell Her About It”. His music blended rock, pop, jazz, and classical influences into a style uniquely his own.
