Just a couple of highlights from this week in music history!

JUL 19: Happy birthday to Brian May, born today in 1947, in Hampton, London! The iconic English musician, songwriter, and astrophysicist is best known as the lead guitarist and co-founder of the legendary rock band Queen, he played a crucial role in creating some of the band's most memorable hits, including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Will Rock You," "Somebody to Love," and "Tie Your Mother Down." His distinctive guitar sound, produced by his homemade guitar, the "Red Special," is instantly recognizable and has influenced countless musicians.

May's contributions to Queen extended beyond his guitar skills; he was also a prolific songwriter and backing vocalist. The band, fronted by Freddie Mercury, became one of the world's best-selling music artists, known for their innovative music and electrifying live performances.
In addition to his music career, May has a passion for astrophysics. He earned a Ph.D. in astrophysics from Imperial College London in 2007, having initially abandoned his studies in the 1970s to pursue music. He has co-authored several scientific papers and books, contributing significantly to the field.
May is also a committed animal rights advocate, founding the Save Me Trust to promote wildlife conservation. He was knighted in 2023 for his services to music and charity, cementing his status as a cultural and scientific luminary.

JUL 26: Happy birthday to Mick Jagger, born today in 1943! The iconic lead singer and co-founder of The Rolling Stones, one of the most influential rock bands in history, is known for his charismatic stage presence, distinctive voice, and energetic performances, Jagger has become a symbol of rock 'n' roll.

Jagger's partnership with guitarist Keith Richards has been central to the band's success. They began collaborating in the early 1960s, writing hit songs like "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," "Paint It Black," and "Sympathy for the Devil." Their music has spanned various genres, including rock, blues, and country, showcasing their versatility and creativity.
Beyond The Rolling Stones, Jagger has pursued a solo career, releasing several albums, including "She's the Boss" (1985) and "Goddess in the Doorway" (2001). He has also ventured into acting, with roles in films like "Performance" (1970) and "Freejack" (1992).
Jagger's influence extends beyond music. He has been a fashion icon, known for his flamboyant style and bold fashion choices. He was knighted in 2003 for his services to music, cementing his status as a cultural and musical legend. Despite his age, Jagger continues to perform and tour, maintaining his position as a dynamic and enduring figure in the music world.
