MAR 1: Happy 94th birthday to Harry Belafonte, born today in 1927! The singer, songwriter, actor, and activist had the first million selling LP by a single artist with his 1956 album Calypso.
MAR 5: Today in 1963, Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas, and Hawkshaw Hawkins were killed in a plane crash. Cline was one of the first country artist to successfully crossover into the pop genre. RIP
MAR 10: Today in 1956, a half page ad in Billboard Magazine was placed by RCA Records stating that Elvis was “the new singing rage!”
