FEB 24: Sadly, Roberta Flack passed away today at age 88. The singer, songwriter, and pianist was known for her soulful and emotive voice. Born on February 10, 1937, in Black Mountain, North Carolina, she gained fame in the early 1970s with hits like "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", "Killing Me Softly with His Song", and "Feel Like Makin’ Love". Her music blended jazz, R&B, and folk influences, making her one of the most versatile vocalists of her era.

Flack's breakthrough came when "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" was featured in the 1971 film "Play Misty for Me", leading to a Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 1973. She won the same award again in 1974 for "Killing Me Softly with His Song", making her the first artist to win in consecutive years.

She also had a successful partnership with Donny Hathaway, producing classics like "Where Is the Love" and "The Closer I Get to You". Over the decades, Flack had remained an influential figure in music, known for her deep, expressive interpretations of songs. Her work will continue to inspire artists across genres, solidifying her legacy as one of the greatest vocalists of all time.

FEB 25: Happy birthday to Mike Peters of The Alarm! Peters is a Welsh singer, songwriter, and musician best known as the frontman of the rock band The Alarm. Born on February 25, 1959, in Prestatyn, Wales, he co-founded The Alarm in the early 1980s, blending punk energy with anthemic rock and socially conscious lyrics. The band gained recognition with hits like 68 Guns, Strength, and Rain in the Summertime, becoming a staple of the alternative rock scene.

Peters’ passionate songwriting and dynamic stage presence helped The Alarm build a dedicated fanbase. Even after the band's initial breakup in the early 1990s, he continued making music, both as a solo artist and through various Alarm reunions.
Beyond music, Peters is known for his resilience in battling cancer and his charity work with the Love Hope Strength Foundation, which promotes cancer awareness and support. His enduring influence in rock music and activism continues to inspire fans worldwide.
