Just a couple of highlights from this week in music history!

FEB 25: Today in 1943, George Harrison was born in Liverpool, England. The English musician, singer, and songwriter is best known as the lead guitarist of The Beatles. Often referred to as “the quiet Beatle,” Harrison played a crucial role in shaping the band’s evolving sound, contributing distinctive guitar work and increasingly sophisticated compositions as the 1960s progressed.
While early Beatles albums were dominated by the songwriting partnership of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Harrison emerged as a major creative force with songs such as “Taxman,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “Something,” and “Here Comes the Sun.” “Something,” in particular, became one of the band’s most celebrated love songs and demonstrated his gift for melodic craftsmanship. Harrison also introduced Indian musical influences to Western pop, studying the sitar under Ravi Shankar and incorporating the instrument into tracks like “Norwegian Wood” and “Within You Without You.”
After The Beatles disbanded in 1970, Harrison launched a highly successful solo career. His triple album All Things Must Pass featured the hit single “My Sweet Lord.” In 1971, he organized the landmark Concert for Bangladesh, one of the first major benefit concerts in rock history. Harrison later co-founded the supergroup Traveling Wilburys. He was inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and remains admired for his spiritual depth, musical innovation, and enduring songwriting legacy.
