Just a couple of highlights from this week in music history!

APR 27: Happy birthday Sheena Easton! She burst onto the global music scene in the early ’80s with a voice that could glide from sweet pop to sultry soul effortlessly. Born April 27, 1959, in Scotland, she became one of the few artists to score Top 5 hits on multiple Billboard charts, proving her versatility across pop, R&B, and dance. Songs like “Morning Train (9 to 5)” and “Strut” showcased her range—from innocent charm to confident attitude.

Her collaboration with Prince on “U Got the Look” added an edgy, funk-driven chapter to her career and earned major acclaim. Easton even crossed into acting, appearing on the hit TV show Miami Vice.

With a career spanning decades, Sheena Easton remains a pop icon known for reinvention and staying power. Her ability to evolve with changing musical trends keeps her legacy alive and influential to this day.

MAY 3: Happy birthday Christopher Cross! He became one of the smoothest voices of late-’70s and early-’80s pop-rock, creating timeless hits that still define the yacht rock era. Born on May 3, 1951, in San Antonio and raised in Houston, he exploded onto the music scene with his self-titled debut album in 1979. The album produced classics like "Sailing" , "Ride Like the Wind", and "Never Be the Same."

In 1981, Cross made music history at the Grammy Awards by becoming the first artist to win the “Big Four” awards in one night: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. His Oscar-winning hit "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)" further cemented his legacy.
With his silky vocals, polished songwriting, and laid-back melodies, Christopher Cross remains a beloved icon whose music still feels like the perfect soundtrack for a sunset cruise.
