The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has announced their Nominees for 2025 Induction. They are: Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Maná, Oasis, Outkast, Phish, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes.
According to the Hall "Artists or bands become eligible for nomination 25 years after releasing their first commercial recording."
Eight of this year's 14 nominees are on the ballot for the first time: Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, Outkast, and Phish.
Commenting on this year's announcement, John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation said: “These remarkable Nominees have each created their own musical style and attitude, impacting generations of music lovers and contributing to the ever-evolving sounds and continued growth of rock & roll.”
An international voting body of over 1,200 artists, historians, and members of the music industry vote based on factors including, according to the Hall, "an artist’s impact on music culture, influence on other musicians that have followed, as well as the scope and longevity of their career and body of work."
It’s clear the Hall is starting to recognize some long-overlooked artists, such as Bad Company, but fans are still wondering why artists such as Boston, ELP, Men At Work, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Sweet, The Guess Who, Toto, Ultravox, and more remain unrecognized.
The Performer Inductees will be announced in April, along with those Inductees in three of the Hall's special committee categories: Musical Influence, Musical Excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2025 Induction Ceremony will take place this fall in Los Angeles. The exact date, venue, and ticket information will be announced later.
