RIAA Gold LP "white matte" award for The Moody Blues album Days Of Future Passed presented to The Moody Blues. The prog rock classic was released on Nov. 11, 1967 and certified Gold by the RIAA on Oct. 2, 1970 for one million dollars worth sold.
The album was a breakthrough through for the group with "Tuesday Afternoon" -- officially entitled "Forever Afternoon (Tuesday)" -- reaching #24 on the Billboard Singles chart in 1968. Later "Nights In White Satin" would become the group's signature track, after reaching #2 in the U.S. in 1972. The album initially went to #27 in the U.K., and later progressed to #2 in U.S. by 1972. Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Gold LP award would have been made in 1970 given the album's certification date. The award most spectacular feature is undoubtedly that it is presented to The Moody Blues.
The award has the correct style presentation plate reading "to commemorate more than one million dollars worth of the Deram long-playing record album..." etc. It is 52 years old but is in VG condition, considering its age. There are a few mars and scratches on the wood frame as is expected. The matte has a couple of discoloration spots as seen in the photos. The presentation plate, album miniature and gold disc are in very good condition and the glass is clear. The original backing paper is also intact with original New York Frame & Picture Co. sticker.

These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home.
