RIAA Gold LP "white matte" award for The Doors Morrison Hotel/Hard Rock Cafe LP presented to The Doors. The album was released on Jan. 1, 1970 in the U.S and was certified Gold a few days later by the RIAA on Feb. 23, 1970 for one million dollars worth sold.
The fifth studio album from The Doors had two separately titled sides: "Hard Rock Cafe" and "Morrison Hotel". The rollicking hit "Roadhouse Blues" appears on this album, as does "Peace Frog" as the band returned to a more blues rock approach after their prior release The Soft Parade. The album reached #4 on the Billboard Albums chart and also became their highest charting album in the U.K. On Nov. 15, 2001 the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA for one million copies sold.*

Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Gold Album white matte award was made in 1970, making it about 55 years old. It is presented to The Doors.
Despite it's age, the award is in Very Good condition. There are a few mars and scratches on the wood frame as is expected, along some minor edge degradation to the presentation plate. However, the matte, disc and album miniature are in very good shape. The backing paper, which has some tears, appears that it could be original and while the manufacturer sticker is missing, there is faint adhesive residue in the size, shape and location consistent with the correct New York Frame & Picture Co. label. The wire hanger is not original and someone has added some small metal spacers on the backing as well as can be seen in the image of the back.

These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home.
