RIAA 3x Multi-Platinum Award for The Beach Boys The Very Best of The Beach Boys Sounds Of Summer. Released on June 10, 2003, it was certified 3x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA for 3 million copies sold on May 11, 2012. Presented to the late Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys, this is a large and impressive award with great artwork.
This greatest hits release contained 30 tracks and almost all of the group's Top 40 hits. The award has an interesting presentation since Dennis Wilson, who sung or played drums, piano and organ variously on almost every track over the group's history, tragically drowned in 1983 at age 39 under somewhat mysterious circumstances.(Note: Last image identifies Dennis Wilson on the album cover art--white "Dennis Wilson" text and arrow do not appear on award).

Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Platinum award is a first presentation award that would have been manufactured in 2012 making this award approximately eight years old. This award is presented to Dennis Wilson, a member of the Beach Boys through his death in 1983 and brother to bandmates Brian and Carl Wilson.
It appears to be all original given the presence of a serial numbered RIAA hologram although the manufacturer's sticker has fallen off its backing paper. Given the locaiton and shape of the sticker residue, it is most likely that is was made by RIAA award maker Jewel Box Platinum. This award is in Excellent condition.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
