A&M Records 1970s label award for Styx album Pieces Of Eight. This award recognizes three million copies sold of the album, which was released in 1978. The release was in fact certified 3x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA in 1984. (Note that this is not a RIAA award).

The album featured two successful singles which have since become Styx classics: "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)" and "Renegade" which made it to #21 and #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, respectively. "Sing For The Day" also received airplay. Powered by those tracks, the album reached #6 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and also found success in Australia, Canada and several European countries.

This A&M Records award is presented to well-known radio personality and executive Scott Shannon. Shannon was on-air at WPLJ, Z100 New York, Q-105 Tampa, and many other stations. A letter of provenance from Shannon will be provided with purchase. It's likely the award was made in 1984 given that the album was indeed certified 3x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA that year.  This award has a unique black plexiglass shadow box design and is in VG condition with only very minor mars.

Notes on the condition of all vintage record awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.

Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
