RIAA Gold Album award for the Smashing Pumpkins album Gish. It was released on May 24, 1991 and by Mar. 14, 1994 was certified Gold by the RIAA for 500,000 copies sold. Rare early Pumpkins award.

The debut from the Chicago group, already displaying the group's alternative psychedelic sound, slowly rose to prominence after topping the CMJ (College Music Journal) chart. It became one of the best-selling independent albums (on Caroline), and was later re-released on Virgin records. Notable tracks included "Siva","I Am One", and "Rhinoceros". Detailed Item Description: This is a first presentation RIAA Gold Album award that would have been manufactured in 1994, making it approximately 29 years old. The award is presented to Harmony House, which was a music retailer founded in Detroit that once operated 38 stores in the Michigan area.

The award is in VG condition with only a few minor mars on the frame and plexiglass. It has no manufacturer sticker or sticker residue present but the award is all original otherwise.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
