Rob Base RIAA Gold Album award for The Incredible Base. Released on Nov. 17, 1989, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA for 500,000 copies sold on Jan. 24, 1990.
Base is probably best known as half of the duo Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, who had the 1988 hit "It Takes Two", that made the top 40 and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. This album followed that success and was the only solo album that Base put out. "Turn It Out (Go Base)" from the album placed on the dance chart in late 1989. The album itself reached #50 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and #20 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Detailed Item Description: This is a RIAA Gold Album award that would have been manufactured in 1997, making it approx. 26 years old. This award is presented to Wes "Party" Johnson, who was Sr. VP of Marketing and Promotion at Def Jam and who also worked with other rap artists including LL Cool J, Public Enemy and many others.
This award is in Good to VG condition. It has all original internal components but has been reframed and its' plexiglass front has been replaced with real glass. While the framing is new and in Excellent condition, there is some rippling of the finish on the gold record around the label (see image). This award was likely made by Fitzgerald Hartley, and whoever reframed it stuck one of their original manufacturer labels onto the new backing paper of the award.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
