A&M Records 1980s label award for Quincy Jones album The Dude. Quincy, or "Q," released this solo album in the midst of his career as super producer of hundreds of recordings including Michael Jackson's Thriller and many more major successes, winning 28 Grammy awards along the way. Released on Mar. 26, 1981, it featured the Billboard Hot 100 Top 20 singles "Just Once" and "One Hundred Ways", featuring vocalist James Ingram. Remember Quincy Jones (1933-2024) with this award.
The album topped both the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop and Jazz Album charts, and reached #9 on the Top 200 Album tally. It also was nominated for 12 Grammy awards (including Album of the Year), winning three at the 24th Grammy Awards in 1982. A stellar cast of musicians appeared on the album, from a very young Michael Jackson to Patti Austin, Herbie Hancock, Steve Lukather, Greg Phillinganes, Stevie Wonder and more.
This label award from A&M Records is presented to Dana Morris, a record promotion executive. A notarized letter of provenance from the recipient is included with this award (see image).
It's likely the award was made in 1982 given that the album was indeed certified Platinum by the RIAA on Feb. 4, 1982. Please note that only the internals of this award are original. It was originally a black plexiglass shadow box case award like the A&M award you can see here. However, the case was damaged when shipped to us so it has been reframed using an 80s era label award frame. The frame has some wear and mars on the plexiglass. The label on the back of the award is its' original label.

Notes on the condition of all vintage record awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
