1984 Grammy® Album Of The Year Nomination Certificate presented to Prince and the Revolution for "Purple Rain". This nomination certificate was personally owned by keyboardist Matt Fink ("Dr. Fink") of Prince And The Revolution.
The title track from the film was released in 1984 on the group's soundtrack album and while it did not win the Album Of The Year Grammy Award (although many say it should have), the group did end up winning Grammys for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media at the awards ceremony in 1985.
Dated 1984, the certificate is displayed with a Purple Rain picture disc and set off with a purple "velvet" matte. The certificate has been closely examined by an expert intimately familiar with Grammy Award nomination certificates and memorabilia and it is completely authentic. A copy of the letter signed by Matt Fink himself comes with the piece, as does a copy of the original Recording Academy note card that accompanied the nomination certificate.
Don't miss this spectacular piece of music history, presented to Prince and the Revolution themselves and personally owned by Matt Fink, who was a member of The Revolution and worked with Prince from 1978 to 1991. Fink is a three-time Grammy Award winner.
Bonus Trivia: The signature that appears on the Grammy Nomination certificate is that of then National President of the Recording Academy, the late Michael Melvoin, who, in addition to being a well known jazz pianist, composer, and arranger, is also the father of Prince and the Revolution guitarist Wendy Melvoin.

Notes on the condition of all vintage awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
