RIAA 4x Multi-Platinum Album Award for Peter Gabriel album So. Released on May 19, 1986, the album was certified 4x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA for four million copies sold on Nov. 9, 1994

The album became Gabriel's biggest success on the strength of #1 Billboard Hot 100 hit "Sledgehammer", with its' unique animated music video (and winning a record nine MTV Video Music Awards). Four other superb singles were featured as well including "Don't Give Up" (duet with Kate Bush), "Big Time", "In Your Eyes", and "Red Rain". The album notched many top chart positions including #1 in the UK, Canada, and much of Europe while hitting #2 on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. It was also nominated for the Grammy award for Album Of The Year. By late 1996 the album was certified 5x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA for five million copies sold*.

Detailed Item Description: This RIAA 4x Multi-Platinum award was manufactured in 1994, making it about 31 years old. It is presented to Geffen Records.

The award is in VG condition with only very minor mars on the plexiglass and frame, and a small imperfection on the record disc next to the slightly mottled label (see image). It is all original with Fitzgerald Hartley manufacturer sticker.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
