RIAA Gold Album award for Pearl Jam album Backspacer. Released on Sept. 20, 2009, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA on Jan. 28, 2010 for 500,000 copies sold.

Pearl Jam's ninth studio album hit #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, becoming their their first chart-topper since 1996's No Code. Singles from the album included "The Fixer" and "Just Breathe", which both enjoyed some success, with the former rising as high as #2 on the Billboard Rock Tracks chart. The album was also nominated for a Grammy Award in 2011 in the Best Rock Album category.

Detailed Item Description: This is a first presentation RIAA Gold award that would have been manufactured sometime around 2010 when this style of RIAA award was made. The award features the full album cover with its colorful artwork. It was designed by editorial cartoonist Dan Perkins, who is known by his pen name Tom Tomorrow. It is presented to Sean Coakley, an independent record promoter that worked with many record labels and who had also worked for ATCO/Atlantic and Arista Records. A notarized letter of provenance from the recipient is included with this award (see image).

This award is in VG to Excellent condition with only a very minor mar or two on the frame and plexiglass. It has its' original back with Jewel Box Platinum manufacturer sticker.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
