RIAA Gold album award for Minnie Ripperton album Perfect Angel. Released on Jan. 1, 1970, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA on March 21, 1975 for 500,000 copies sold. Remember Minnie Ripperton (1947-1979) with this award.

Her solo debut, the album produced Ripperton's #1 Billboard Hot 100 chart hit "Loving You" which featured her four octave, coloratura soprano range, the top end of which is often called the "whistle register." Although he contributed songs in his own name, Stevie Wonder actually also co-produced the album along with Ripperton's husband Richard Rudolph under the pseudonym "El Toro Negro," because Wonder was concerned it could conflict with his Motown record contract. The album reached #1 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums and #4 on the Top Pop Albums charts.

She also worked with Earth, Wind & Fire, Herbie Hancock, Carole King, The Isley Brothers, Redbone, The O'Jays and many others.

It is VG condition with typical frame wear and mars on the plexiglass. Its' backing paper is original with some tears (taped to help prevent dust intrusion) and is complete with New York Frame & Picture Co. manufacturer sticker.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.

Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
