Here is a unique display of Leon Russell music history -- Russell's original signed AFTRA membership application.
Leon Russell's prolific 60-year career saw him collaborate or play with dozens of major artists including Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Dick Dale, George Harrison, Jan and Dean, Elton John, Ringo Starr, Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones and many others. His "A Song for You" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2018 and has been recorded by more than 200 artists. His composition "This Masquerade" by more than 75. Nominated for seven Grammy awards, he won two and he was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2011.
As to this collage, AFTRA is the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and becoming a member of that union permitted performers appearing on television and other mediums to be paid properly at AFTRA rates. There are three forms in this display, two of which are signed in ballpoint pen by Russell. They include two membership-related documents along with a receipt for Russell's appearance on the 1960s Jim O'Neill show.
