RIAA Gold Single 45 award for Johnny Rivers track "Swayin' to the Music (Slow Dancin')". Released in June 1977, the single was certified Gold by the RIAA on Nov. 29, 1977 for one million copies sold. 

From Rivers' studio album Outside Help, his cover of the song, originally recorded by Funky Kings in 1976, was even more successful. It reached #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #3 in Canada, while also charting in Australia. Originally released on Rivers' own Soul City record label as "Slow Dancing", he later released it on Atlantic Records subsidiary label Big Tree to gain wider distribution.

Detailed Item Description: This is a RIAA Gold Single award that would have been manufactured in 1977, making the award approximately 49 years old. It is presented to Atlantic Records.

It is in VG condition with some typical wear on the frame and mars on the plexiglass. It is all original and while the backing paper has been taped and a wire hanger has been installed in place of the sawtooth hanger, it still has its' Creative Glassics manufacturer sticker.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home.
