RIAA 2x Multi-Platinum album award for Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 album signed by Janet Jackson. The album was released on Sept. 8, 1989 and certified 2x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA on Nov. 21, 1989 for two million copies sold.

The album went to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and singles "Black Cat", "Miss You Much", "Love Will Never Do (Without You)", "Alright", "Escapade", "Come Back To Me" and the title track were all top 10 singles on the Hot 100. Jackson received nine Grammy award nominations for the album, including for Producer of the Year, becoming the first woman to be nominated in this category. By 1992 the album was certified 6x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA for six million copies sold.*

Detailed Item Description: This is a RIAA 2x Multi-Platinum award that was manufactured in 1990, making it approx. 35 years old.

Janet Jackson has signed the matte of the award in silver marker, adding "Love Janet Jackson". It is presented to Jodie Pankhurst, a national accounts executive who worked at EMI, Warner Music Group, and other labels. A letter of provenance from Pankhurst will be provided with purchase (see image).

This award is all original, in VG condition with a few scratches and mars on the chrome frame and very minor mars on the plexiglass. Award has its original backing board with Fitzgerald Hartley manufacturer sticker.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
