RIAA Gold Album award for the self-titled debut album from Hi-Five. Released on Oct. 23, 1990, it was certified Gold on May 16, 1991 for 500,000 copies sold.* Remember group members Tony Thompson (1975-2007) and Roderick “Pooh” Clark (1973-2022) with this award.

The group's debut release landed a hit with their single "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)", which topped the Billboard Hot 100. Other hit singles included "I Just Can't Handle It" and "I Can't Wait Another Minute". The album peaked at #30 on the Billboard 200 and also charted in Australia.

Detailed Item Description: This is a RIAA Gold Album award that was manufactured in 1991, making it approx. 35 years old. It is presented to a The Hit Factory® Mastering Studios, the facility where the album was mastered.

This award is in VG condition with minor frame and plexiglass wear. It is all original although the manufacturer label has been torn off. The numbered sticker on the back of the award is an inventory number from the recording studio.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
