RIAA Gold Album Award for the debut album from Hi-Five. Released on Sept. 25, 1990, it was certified Gold by the RIAA for 500,000 copies sold on May 16, 1991. Remember group members Tony Thompson (1975-2007) and Roderick “Pooh” Clark (1973-2022) with this award.
The group arrived with their debut album on the scene with a #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart with the track "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)". Second single "I Can't Wait Another Minute" went to #8 on the Hot 100. The album peaked at #30 on the Top 200 Albums chart and also charted in Australia. Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Gold Album award is a first presentation award that would have been manufactured in 1991, making it approx. 33 years old. It is presented to a former radio program director. Their name has been obscured only in the photos for privacy. A letter of provenance from the recipient will be provided with purchase. Provenance letter can be seen in images with executive's name obscured for privacy. Item buyer will receive a non-obscured copy of the letter.
This award is in VG condition with minor mars on the plexiglass and frame. It is all original with original backing paper. While the manufacturer sticker is missing, adhesive residue is present in the size, shape and location consistent with that of a California Gold Record Co. manufacturer sticker (see red arrow pointing to this on image).

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
