RIAA Gold LP "white matte" award for the Doobie Brothers album The Captain And Me. Released on March 2, 1973, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA on July 3, 1973 for one million dollars worth sold. Remember original co-drummers John Hartman and Michael Hossack with this award.
The third album from the group contained classic rock tracks "Long Train Runnin'" and "China Grove", both of which were staples on rock radio. The album reached #7 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and also did well in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and other countries. Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Gold LP award was made in 1973, making it about 49 years old. The award is presented to Benita Brazier, who worked as a Product Manager and in artist development for Warner Bros. Records at the time.
This award is in Very Good condition, especially considering its age. The award has original internal components but upon inspection it clearly has been reframed with a reproduction frame by a someone prior to our acquisition. (Note the square inner frame bead shown in the detail image. For info on what the frame should look like, check out our article detailing RIAA white matte award construction here). It was then also rebacked by the restorer who re-applied a New York Frame & Picture Co. manufacturer sticker. Despite the reproduction frame, this is still a very nice award given its' original internal components.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
