RIAA Gold Album Award for Derek and the Dominos album Layla (full title: Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs). Released on Nov. 9, 1970, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA on August 26, 1971 for one million dollars worth sold.*
The album featured the classic title track, which became a signature hit for Eric Clapton and the group and hit #10 on the Billboard Hot 100, along with "Bell Bottom Blues". The group's only album release also famously featured Duane Allman on slide guitar on several tracks. Clapton and Allman were introduced to each other by Tom Dowd when recording at Miami's Criteria Studios, which led to the collaboration. The album went to #16 on the Billboard Top LPs chart and charted in many other countries. The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000.

Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Gold Album award is a first presentation award that would have been manufactured in 1971 making it approximately 54 years old. It is presented to Criteria Recording Studios, the studio in Miami where the album was recorded.
The award is in VG condition, especially considering its' age, with wear on the frame , some fading of the record label, a few imperfections on the matte, and tears on the backing paper, which have been taped to help prevent dust intrusion. It has a New York Frame & Picture Co. manufacturer sticker present. The studio replaced the standard white matte wire hanger with a sawtooth hanger. The numbered sticker on the back of the award is an inventory number from the recording studio.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
Finally, a word on photos:Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
