Portrait Records award for the Cyndi Lauper's debut "platinum" album She's So Unusual and "gold" single for "Girls Just Want To Have Fun." Released on October 14, 1983, the album was indeed certified Platinum by the RIAA on May 7, 1984 for one million copies sold, while the single went Gold on April 2, 1984. Note: This is not a RIAA award.

A huge success that ushered Lauper into pop stardom, the album landed four singles into the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart including "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", "All Through The Night", "She Bop" and "Time After Time", the latter of which went to #1.  It was the first album by a female artist to ever have four singles in the top 5 of the chart. The album itself peaked at #4 on the Top 200 Albums chart and #1 in Canada. The release also earned Lauper two Grammy awards and by 1997 had reached RIAA certified 6x Multi-Platinum status.*

Detailed Item Description: This is a colorful and unique record label award that would have been manufactured in 1984, making it approximately 42 years old. The note on the presentation plate pokes fun at the usual messages, saying: "Thanks! You couldn't have done it without me!" with a printed Cyndi Lauper autograph.

It is presented to Chip Rachlin, who was an agent at ICM in Los Angeles, working with Billy Joel, Eagles, Beach Boys, America, and many others. He later managed The Kinks and also worked at MTV in its' early days.

The award is in VG condition with only very minor mars on the plexiglass and minor tarnishing of the metal 45. Its torn backing paper was replaced but otherwise the award is all original.

Notes on the condition of all vintage record awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.

Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
