RIAA Gold Award for Billy Idol album Greatest Hits. Released on Mar. 27, 2001, it was certified Gold by the RIAA for 500,000 copies sold on Jan. 16, 2002.
This greatest hits release contained Idol's top hits "Rebel Yell" to "White Wedding" to "Mony Mony". It also includes Idol's version of "Don't You (Forget About Me)", which was actually written by Idol's longtime producer/songwriter Keith Forsey for Idol but ended up being first recorded (and made famous) by Simple Minds. The album reached #74 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and charted in several other countries as well. By 2005 it was certified Platinum by the RIAA for one million sold. Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Gold Album award is a first presentation award that would have been manufactured in 2002, making it approximately 22 years old. It is presented to a former marketing and promotion executive who worked at EMI Capitol Records. Their name has been obscured in the photos only for privacy. A letter of provenance from the recipient will be provided with purchase. Provenance letter can be seen in images with executive's name obscured for privacy. Item buyer will receive a non-obscured copy of the letter.
The award is in Excellent condition with only minor wear on the frame and a few mars on the plexiglass. It is all original with Milestone Awards manufacturer sticker.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
