RIAA Platinum Album award for 10,000 Maniacs album MTV Unplugged. Released on Oct. 11, 1993, the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA on Jan. 11, 1994 for one million copies sold.
Released in the wake of the successful series of MTV Unplugged series, the 10,000 Maniacs live album recorded during the telecast became very successful. It featured the hit single "Because the Night", a cover of the Patti Smith/Bruce Springsteen penned song. In addition, the Talking Heads' David Byrne guested on vocals during the performance on some tracks. The album reached #13 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and charted in Canada and the UK as well. By the end of 1997 the album was certified 3x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA for three million copies sold.*

Detailed Item Description: This is a RIAA Platinum Album award that was made in 1994, making it approx. 33 years old. It is presented to a group of people by their first names: Ann, John, Tom, Kelly, Bruce and Bruce Jr. It is not known who the recipients are but they could be, possibly, either crew or fan club members, but this is just a guess.
This award in in Good to VG condition with mars on the frame (including two small chips on the back side of the top rail of the frame--not visible when award is hung on a wall) and plexiglass. The award has its' original Ill Eagle Enterprises manufacturer sticker.

As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
