AC/DC Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap RIAA Platinum LP Award presented to original drummer Phil Rudd. The group's third studio album with Bon Scott as lead vocalist, Dirty Deeds... was released by the group on Dec. 17, 1976 internationally but not until March 27, 1981 in the U.S., more than a year after Scott's untimely death in early 1980. The album was certified Platinum by the RIAA on June 3, 1981 for 1,000,000 copies sold.
The album included the classic title track, which peaked at #4 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Singles chart and the album itself performed very well, rising to #3 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. By 2001 it had been certified 6x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA. See image above for all the RIAA sales certifications of this album through the years*.

Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Platinum award is presented to original and long time AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd, who played on the Dirty Deeds... album and recorded and toured with the group from its earliest days until recently over two lengthy periods: From 1975-83 and 1994-2015. Group member presentations on RIAA awards are rare.
This is a first presentation RIAA Platinum LP award that would have been manufactured in 1981, since this "floater" style award was produced from 1975-81 and the album was certified Platinum in '81. That makes this award 38 years old.
The award is in Good to VG condition, considering its age. While the backing paper has been changed, the frame and all internal components appear all original and unaltered. The award has some wear on the frame and typical scratches on the frame, along with a faded matte. The center of the record label also has some minor damage (see photos) likely caused when the record or presentation plate came loose inside the frame. This was obviously later reattached, which explains the changed backing paper.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
