RIAA Gold Award for The Killers debut album Hot Fuss. Released on June 15, 2002 the album was certified Gold by the RIAA on Oct. 4, 2002 for 500,000 copies sold.
This award celebrates the very first success for Las Vegas-based alternative rock group The Killers and would pave the way for worldwide success. "Mr. Brightside", "Somebody Told Me", "All These Things That I've Done" and "Smile Like You Mean It" all received significant airplay and propelled the album to #7 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums and #1 on the UK Albums charts. It also charted in numerous other markets around the world. It garnered The Killers five Grammy awards nominations. By the end of 2005 the album had been certified 3x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA. Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Gold award is a first presentation award that would have been manufactured in 2002 making it approximately 19 years old. It would have been the first Gold record ever earned by The Killers. It is presented to Steve Harman, who worked in music retailing with the Tower Records chain in New York.
The award is in Excellent condition, with only very minor mar or two on the frame. Has original back with Jewel Box Platinum manufacturer's sticker and all correct components.

These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home.
