RIAA Gold LP "white matte" award for The Doors Strange Days album presented to Elektra Records. The album was released on Oct. 1, 1967 in the U.S and was certified Gold by the RIAA on Jan. 12, 1968 for one million dollars worth sold.

The album contained the classic hits "People Are Strange", "Love Me Two Times". The album reached #3 on the Billboard Albums chart and also did well worldwide, going Gold or Platinum in many world markets. Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Gold LP award was made in 1968 and this is a first presentation award. The award is presented to Elektra Records.

The award features the correct style presentation plate reading "to commemorate more than one million dollars worth of the Elektra Records long-playing record album..." etc. It is 53 years old but is in Very Good condition. There are a few mars and scratches on the wood frame, but it is complete with original backing paper and New York Frame & Picture Co. sticker. The manufacturer's sticker is correct with the pre-1969 141 Fulton St., NY address. (After 1969 the company moved to 29 John St., NY address).

Accompanied by a notarized letter of provenance from the collector who owned the award since the early 1990s. Provenance letter can be seen in images with collector's name obscured for privacy. Item buyer will receive a non-obscured copy of the letter.

These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
