Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Platinum award was made in 1978, making it 46 years old. It is presented to Doug Morris, who was then president of Atco Records, the company that distributed Rolling Stones Records releases in the early 1970s after which distribution moved to Atlantic Records. Morris would later become CEO of Universal Music Group.

The award is in Good condition with some fairly significant frame wear, significant fading and a small stain on the record label, and fading of the album miniature (see images). The original badly faded matte has been switched out with a same-era Platinum floater matte. Note that this matte also has some minor fading due to its' age. Otherwise, the award consists of all its' original components including the record disc, label, album miniature, presentation plate, frame and backing paper. The backing paper has been cut on three sides to allow access to effect the repair stated above but the paper still has original sticker residue in the typical size, location and shape of a New York Frame & Picture Co. This, along with the other details of the award, show that it was made by NYF&P Co.

Don't miss the great, hard-to-find early RIAA award recognizing this classic Stones album.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.

Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
