Impressive, large label award celebrating the success of Mariah Carey across many of her albums and naming her "Artist of the Millennium". The albums shown on the award include her debut, Daydream, Emotions, Music Box, and the Merry Christmas album that featured her classic hit "All I Want For Christmas Is You". The albums all reached #1 or top 10 in most major markets in the world. The award was made for a Aug. 29, 1998 presentation to Carey at a charity concert held by Bay Area California radio station KMEL called the KMEL All-Star Jam. Detailed Item Description: This impressive award features album artwork and would have been manufactured around 1998 making it 34 years old.
Mariah Carey is named on the plaque and the assumption is she was given the award at the KMEL All Star Jam fundraiser concert as seen in the video below and Jerry Blair, who was at the time Carey's manager, came into possession of it at the event.
Blair had a long association wih her including during his time as a record executive at Columbia Records. In addition to working with Carey, Blair played a key role in the success of artists Aerosmith, Tony Bennett, Mariah Carey, Billy Joel, Ricky Martin, George Michael, Will Smith, Bruce Springsteen and many others. The award is accompanied by a letter of provenance from Blair's son, who later took possession of his father's awards and memorabilia (see image of letter, son's name is redacted on image, buyer will receive unredacted copy).
The award is in VG condition with some minor wear on its' silver frame and a few mars on the plexiglass. The back is finished in plain brown craft paper.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA and other record awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
