RIAA Platinum LP award for Led Zeppelin, which was a compilation box set released on October 8, 1990. The album was certified Gold and Platinum on the same day by the RIAA on Dec. 11, 1990 for 500,000 and 1 million copies sold.

Containing two previously unreleased tracks with "Travelling Riverside Blues" and "White Summer/Black Mountain Side" included, along with the group's only single B-side that never appeared on a album previously ("Hey, Hey, What Can I Do"), the album otherwise contained a great retrospective of Zeppelin hits through the years.

The album peaked at #18 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and hit #48 on the UK chart. It sold extremely well, eventually becoming a Diamond seller with 10 million copies sold, as certified by the RIAA on March 2, 2001. It was ranked #79 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, along with many other accolades. Detailed Item Description: This large and uniquely designed RIAA Platinum award for the Led Zeppelin's self-titled 1990 compilation album/boxed set is a first presentation award that would have been manufactured sometime in 1990, making it approx. 32 years old. It unusually reflects the simultaneous certification at Gold and Platinum on the same day (Dec. 11, 1990 per the RIAA) since it is a Platinum award with the plate reading 500,000 copies, which is the Gold certification level. This has been seen in other awards for this title, such as the one that can be seen here on our website.

It is presented to well-known mastering engineer George Marino (1947-2012) of Sterling Sound who, in addition to mastering most of Led Zeppelin's most famous albums, applied his mastering touch to many records from AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Whitney Houston, Journey, Kiss, Mötley Crüe, The Cars, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ringo Starr, Santana, Elvis Presley, Ozzy Osbourne, Blondie and numerous others.

The award is in VG condition, with only a very few minor scratches on the frame (including one cut on the side of one frame rail, although this is not visible form the front of the award) and plexiglass. It has its' original backing paper with Ill Eagle manufacturer sticker.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one:Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed at record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, record retailers, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.

Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
