RIAA Platinum LP award for the KISS album Double Platinum. This was the fire-spewing NYC group's first greatest hits album, released on April 1, 1978. The album was certified Platinum by the RIAA on May 16, 1978 for one million copies sold.
Hits "Rock And Roll All Nite", "Beth", "God Of Thunder" and "Calling Dr. Love" and other KISS favorites all appeared on the album. Some of the tracks were remixed and are different from their original versions including "Strutter" which was re-recorded with a disco-infused beat and dubbed "Strutter '78". Others, such as "Hard Luck Woman" and "Detroit Rock City" had sections removed.
The album hit #22 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart in the U.S. Despite its title, the album ended its run at Platinum as this award celebrates. See image above for the RIAA sales certifications of this album through the years*.

Detailed Item Description: This is a first presentation RIAA Platinum award that would have been manufactured in 1978, since this "floater" style award was produced from 1975-81 making it 42 years old. The award is presented to Peter Guber, who at the time the album was released was on the film side of the Casablanca label. A serial entrepreneur, Guber has produced films including Rain Man, Batman, The Color Purple, Flashdance and many more. He has also amassed a portfolio of companies and sports teams including the NBA's Golden State Warriors, MLB's L.A. Dodgers and more.
The award is in Good to VG condition. The frame has some typical scratches and mars, the matte and album miniature have some fading and the presentation plate has some damage. What it looks like is that at some point recipient Peter Guber's name was covered up. The award has been rebacked but all the internals appear original.
While not in superior condition, this is a great chance to get a KISS award since they rarely come on the market, especially from the 70s era with an interesting presentation as well.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
