RIAA Gold LP "white matte" award for The Moody Blues album Seventh Sojourn presented to The Moody Blues. The prog rock classic was released on Nov. 17, 1972 and certified Gold by the RIAA on Nov. 21, 1972 for one million dollars worth sold.

The album was a success, generating the Billboard Hot 100 #12 hit "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)", which was written in response to fans who were attempting to assign too much meaning to the the group's song lyrics. "Isn't Life Strange" also charted, hitting #13 in the UK and #29 in the U.S. The album topped the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, and reached #5 in the U.K. See image above for the RIAA sales certifications of this album*.

Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Gold LP award would have been made in 1972 given the album's certification date. The award most spectacular feature is undoubtedly that it is presented to The Moody Blues.

The award has the correct style presentation plate reading "to commemorate more than one million dollars worth of the Threshold Records long-playing record album..." etc. It is 50 years old but is in VG condition, considering its age. There are a few mars and scratches on the wood frame as is expected. The album miniature is slightly faded and there is very slight lifting of the label on the right side, but the matte, presentation plate, and gold disc are in very good condition and the glass is clear. The original backing paper is mottled but intact with original New York Frame & Picture Co. sticker.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a coveted all-original RIAA white matte award for The Moody Blues prog rock classic, complete with spectacular presentation to the group itself.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good" wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.

Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
