RIAA Platinum Album Award for Mariah Carey's debut album, which was released on June 12, 1990.  It was certified 5x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA on April 29, 1991 for five million copies sold.

An ultra successful debut, the album produced a record four consecutive Billboard Hot 100 #1 singles for Carey including "Vision of Love", "Love Takes Time", "Someday" and "I Don't Wanna Cry" making her the first artist since The Jackson 5 to see their first four singles hit #1 on the chart. The album also topped the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and repeated this feat in numerous other countries. By 1999 the release had been certified an impressive 9x Multi-Platinum by RIAA for nine million sold in the U.S. See image above for the RIAA sales certifications of this album through the years*.

Detailed Item Description: This is a first presentation RIAA Platinum album award that would have been manufactured in 1991. That makes this award approx. 33 years old. The award is presented to Taurus Records, which was a record retailer based in Indiana.

The award is in Very Good condition with some mars on the frame and plexiglass. It has its' original backing paper and Ill-Eagle manufacturer sticker.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
