RIAA Gold Album award for Julian Lennon album Valotte. Released on Oct. 19, 1984, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA on Jan. 9, 1985 for 500,000 copies sold.
Julian Lennon's debut album was released just a few years after his father John Lennon's life was tragically cut short. It was notable in that the younger Lennon's vocals were at times remarkably similar in tone to his late father's. His physical similarity to his father was also evident in album jacket photos. The album produced much buzz at the time and two top ten Billboard Hot 100 hits resulted: "Too Late For Goodbyes" and the title track "Valotte." The album peaked at #17 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart and charted in numerous other markets around the world. The album was certified Platinum by the RIAA for one million copies sold on Mar. 13, 1985.*

Detailed Item Description: This is a RIAA Gold Album award that would have been manufactured in 1985, making it approx. 40 years old. It is presented to The Hit Factory® recording studio owner, the late Ed Germano, who bought the facility in 1975. Parts of the album were recorded at the studio.
This award is in VG condition with mars on the plexiglass and frame (some severe enough to expose the red primer underneath the gold finish). The award has its original backing paper with Creative Glassics manufacturer sticker, although cut on three sides to effect repair of a fallen presentation plate. The numbered sticker on the back of the award is an inventory number from the recording studio.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
Finally, a word on photos: Our photos are zoomable so you can get a very good look. Do let us know if you want photos of any other details on our pieces and we'll be happy to provide.
