BPI (British Phonographic Industry) Gold LP award for Jasper Carrott comedy album The Unrecorded Jasper Carrott. The album was released on Oct. 5, 1979 and later that year was certified Gold in the U.K. by BPI on Dec. 13 that year for 100,000 copies sold.
Actor, musician and comedian Jasper Carrott OBE, while not known in the U.S., is a comedy legend in the UK. Carrott, who went to school with original ELO drummer Bev Bevan, started out in music (even scoring a hit in the UK with Bevan on drums and ELO's Jeff Lynne producing). He evolved to comedy as his between-song patter became popular while performing his music. This was one of the comedy albums he released in the 70s and early 80s. Detailed Item Description: This is a first presentation BPI Gold award that would have been manufactured in 1979 making it approximately 44 years old. The award is presented to Stephen James, who worked with his father Dick James (1920-1986), Sir Elton John’s first music publisher. Dick James and Brian Epstein established the Beatles' publisher Northern Songs. Later James founded, with son Stephen, the DJM record label and recording studios.
The award is all original and in VG condition, with only a very few minor scratches on the frame and very minor red felt matte, UK flag and album miniature fading. The glass is clear. It has its' orginal Century Displays manufacturer sticker on the backing board.

Notes on the condition of all vintage awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
