RIAA Platinum album award for Styx album Cornerstone. Released in October 1979, the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA on Feb. 5, 1980 for one million copies sold. 

The album featured the group's Billboard Hot 100 #1 single "Babe" along "Why Me", which reached #26 and "Boat On A River", which charted in Europe. The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and also found success in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and several European countries. It also earned Styx their first Grammy award nomination. By 1984 the album was certified 2x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA for two million copies sold. Detailed Item Description: This is a first presentation RIAA Platinum album award from 1980, making it approx. 44 years old. It is presented to A&M Records, Inc.

The award is in VG condition with minimal frame wear and mars on the plexiglass. The award's matte is also in excellent, almost completely un-faded condition. The album miniature has very slight lifting at the corners. The award's backing paper is original with New York Frame & Picture Co. manufacturer sticker.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
