MTV Europe Music Award from 2000 signed by Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who won for Best Rock, on the heels of the release of their most successful album to date, Californication. Held on at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden on Nov. 16, 2000, RHCP won after being nominated alongside Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, Korn and Limp Bizkit. Smith's autograph and his added "RHCP 2000" notation has been authenticated by JSA (John Spence Authentication) and their Letter of Authentication will be included (see image above).
Chad Smith is seen in the photo above on the red carpet at the 2000 MTV Europe awards with MTV award in hand. The award was likely used at the show for presentations and photos since its' plate has not been engraved. Also, the tip of the "V" on MTV was obviously broken off at some point but has been glued back together. While only an educated guess, it may have been dropped by someone at the show and at some point Smith agreed to sign it on the bottom of its' base.

Detailed Item Description: This MTV Europe Music Award would have been made in 2000 making it 23 years old. Besides the rarity of MTV Music Awards themselves, the award's most spectacular feature is undoubtedly that it is signed on the bottom of its' base by drummer Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who won that night for Best Rock.
The uniquely designed all-metal award is in VG condition only very minor scratches. The "V" of MTV was cracked and reattached and the presentation plate is blank as noted above. Notes on the condition of all vintage awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
