RIAA Gold LP award for Journey album Captured. Released on Jan. 30, 1981, it was certified Gold by the RIAA on April 29, 1981 for 500,000 copies sold.

The group's first live album, it featured tracks recorded throughout their 1980 tour at their concerts in Detroit, Montreal, and Tokyo. Classic Journey tracks on the album included "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' ", "Wheel in the Sky", "Any Way You Want It", "Just The Same Way", "Lights", "Feeling That Way" and more. It was also keyboardist and Journey founder Greg Rolie's last album with the band. The album reached #9 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart and it also charted in Canada, Japan, and the U.K. By 1994 the album was certified 2x Multi-Platinum for two million copies sold. See image above for the RIAA sales certification data of this album*.

Detailed Item Description: This is a first presentation RIAA Gold award that would have been manufactured in 1982 making it approx. 42 years old. It is presented Sandy Einstein, who worked in promotion and publicity for Journey, Europe, Mr. Big and others.

The award is in VG condition with only minor mars on the frame and plexiglass, and a tear on the backing paper (taped to help prevent dust intrusion). The backing paper has its original Creative Glassics manufacturer sticker.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
