RIAA Gold LP "white matte" award for Edgar Winter Group album Shock Treatment. This album was the group's fourth studio album and was released in May 1974. It was certified Gold by the RIAA on July 18, 1974 for one million dollars worth sold.
The album, with the Edgar Winter line up after Ronnie Montrose was replaced by Rick Derringer, featured two charting tracks which were "Easy Street" and "River's Risin' ". Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Gold LP white matte award would have been made in 1974 making it 47 years old. It is presented to Eli Schoenfield who was a music industry lawyer.
The award has the correct style presentation plate reading "to commemorate more than one million dollars worth of the Asylum Records long-playing record album..." etc. It is 47 years old and in Good condition, considering its age. There are some typical mars and scratches on the wood frame and an area of minor discoloration at the bottom of the matte. The presentation plate and gold disc are in VG condition and the glass is clear. The album miniature is somewhat faded and the original backing paper is, while intact, torn in many spots. The award does still have its' original New York Frame & Picture Co. sticker.

These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.
As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home.
